Concrete Foundation Rockhampton

A new home is one of the biggest investments you will make in your life. Even more importantly, it is the place where you and your loved ones will spend your time together.

A project as important as a new home needs to begin with the best foundations. If the foundations are shoddy, it doesn’t matter how strong the house is above, there will always be a great weakness below.

There is a reason why concrete foundations have been around for a long time, and that is because they are strong and extremely reliable.

Our team of contractors at JSL Concrete Rockhampton are experts in the field of concrete foundations.

Now, before we continue, a home concrete foundation is only one of the things that can be built upon a concrete foundation. You might need to build a garage extension, or perhaps you’ve decided to build a shed in the backyard. You might want to add a granny flat, or extend your home by a couple of rooms. Perhaps you want to turn your young prodigy into the next LeBron James, and put a basketball court in the back yard.

And of course, concrete foundations are not limited to residential home owners. Commercial and Corporate business owners who need to build new shops, office, townhouses or any type of building construction need to ensure that what they are building will last for a long time. A concrete foundation built by our contractors at JSL Concrete Rockhampton will give you that piece of mind.

For a foundation to be strong, it must do the following three things very well:

The first is obvious: it must support the weight of whatever sits atop it.

The second make sense as well: it allows for the building to be built on a level surface.

And the third is perhaps a little less known, but just as important: it keeps water out; not only the water that falls from the sky and flows across your land, but the water from the ground itself.

The most common type of concrete foundation is the good ol’ dependable and reliable concrete slab. This is particularly good in sunny Queensland as the concrete slab is a good insulator. The general process for creating a concrete slab foundation are as follows:

–         Prepare the frame for the slab. This formwork needs to be done right as there will be a lot of weight bearing down on it, and it can not afford to be done shoddily.

–         Excavate the site until the land is almost level.

–         The concrete needs to be poured onto something firm and compacted. This is often a road base, or similar material. By the end of this stage, the surface will be level and greatly compacted to ensure the concrete slab will not crack under pressure.

–         To help ensure the concrete won’t crack or buckle, reinforcement bars are added. The positioning of these reinforcements are planned in advanced according to the building plans.

–         Now, the pouring of concrete can begin. Control joints and expansion joints are added to ensure the concrete, which will shrink as it dries, does not crack. The concrete also needs to be compacted, to ensure that is binds to the formwork and the reinforcements.

–         Even after all this, the process isn’t finish. Water needs to be applied to the concrete for the next week to ensure that the slab seals properly, and the formwork removed.

The above is a simplified account of the process, and it is included so that you know that it is not a process that should be done by non-professionals. Pouring concrete slabs is not as simple as just pouring out concrete into a hole and waiting a while for it to dry. It must follow a plan and a proper procedure, otherwise it will not create a concrete foundation capable of carrying the weight of a house or whatever other construction you wish to build.

We want your home or structure to last for decades, and the best way to do that is to ensure the foundation is done correctly, by professional concrete foundation expert contractors like ours.
