Exposed Aggregate Concrete Rockhampton

In the Concrete Stamping and Stencilling service page, we give you a couple examples of decorative concrete finishes. Here, we give you another option: exposed aggregate concrete.

Now, what is exposed aggregate concrete?

When concrete is normally poured, the surface is usually smoothed off, giving you that smooth grey carpet of concrete we are all aware of.

However, with exposed aggregate concrete, that top-most layer of concrete is washed away, allowing the aggregate – the bits of sand, gravel and stone that is a part of what makes concrete concrete – to be displayed. The exposed concrete aggregate is then smoothed down so that what remains is comfortable to walk on.

This gives a beautiful design and texture to the concrete surface, that is completely unique in looks from one case to the next.

Exposed aggregate concrete has been a popular concrete finisher for a long time. One of the reasons is because of its looks; they are aesthetically pleasing concrete finish particular for your driveway, which is usually very visible from beyond your property boundaries.

But exposed aggregate concrete is also very slip-resistant. Since the surface is not just smoothed over concrete, but irregular, you get far better traction when travelling on it, particularly in wet conditions.

This is a very big reason why this finishing type is used on concrete driveways; it allows better traction for your vehicle’s wheels particularly when it is wet, as well as for your own feet when you get out of the car.

It is also a good reason why this type of concrete finish is popular for footpaths, pool decks and patios, and other outdoor entertainment areas that are open to the elements.

The amount of aggregate in the exposed concrete aggregate can be adjusted according to your particular taste. Around the edges of the pool, the exposed aggregate is great for helping wet feet retain traction, but perhaps you want smaller aggregate or a little less of the top layer of concrete to be exposed so that that surface isn’t as rough as, say, your concrete driveway. This is one of the options you can request when you contact us.

As well as changing the size of the aggregate, or the amount of aggregate you want shown, you can choose the type of aggregate you want or its coarseness. You can even have it polished.

Exposed aggregate concrete requires little maintenance. You will need to seal it, but beyond that, the occasional cleaning is all that is required.

Hopefully you have realised the benefits of exposed concrete aggregate for your driveway, pool deck, patios and exposed concrete surfaces. We offer this service for both residential home owners and for commercial and corporate business owners also.

If done well, your concrete driveways, pool decks, patios and other outdoor entertainment surfaces can stay looking great and safe for years and years to come.
